• Boutique SCART

I have heard about a guarantee fund.  What does this mean exactly?
All of our exhausts* are guaranteed for the life of your car.  Since the outset we put in place a guarantee fund.   This fund is financed by each and every one of our sales since part of the selling price of every exhaust is given over to it    The fund thus formed is reserved for financing the guarantees.  In fact it is a way of guaranteeing the guarantee.
* except catalytic converters and « competition exhausts ».

What is a catalytic converter for?
A catalytic converter is an oven which burns the harmful particles which are in the exhaust fumes.  The technique is simple: the exhaust fumes pass through tubes forming a sieve.  The friction of the exhaust against the side of the tubes causes the temperature to rise.  Several minutes after starting your engine, the catalytic converter has reached its operating temperature.  The harmful particles contained in the exhaust fumes are burned as they pass through the catalytic converter.  In the photo shown below you can see a traditional catalytic cartridge.

What is a sport catalytic converter ?
A sport catalytic converter works along the same principle as a traditional catalytic converter. (Carburation of fumes as they pass through the catalytic converter thanks to the increased temperature°.) . However, instead of 400 cells or cavities, the sport catalytic converter has 100 cells or cavities.  It takes approximately 3 minutes longer to reach its operating temperature.  However, the temperature reached by the sport catalytic converter enables it to burn the harmful particles just as well as a traditional catalytic converter. The result is that the gas passes through more quickly and that there is no bottleneck when you accelerate.  This is why a sport catalytic converter gives you greater power and a lower fuel consumption.  You can see a sport catalytic converter cartridge below.

What are your priorities when you create a SCART exhaust ?
In fact we have 3 priorities and they are strictly in the following order:
1-
Technical efficiency.  We optimise the exhaust for a maximum effect (in torque and power).  At this stage the shape is determined by the maximum bulk possible.  To a great extent it is this shape which determines the exhausts technical capacities.
2- The sound.  At this stage we are working essentially on the materials.  It is also at this stage that we create our first prototypes.  Once the exhausts are fitted to the cars, we can work more effectively on the sound.  The first step is to eliminate all resonance.  The second step is to achieve a sound which we consider characteristic of the model for which the SCART exhaust is being created.
3-
The third and last priority regards the price.  (We only concern ourselves with the price once the first two priorities have been achieved).  There is no point in creating the most beautiful exhaust in the world if no one can afford to buy it.
We have two possible options:
The simplest is to create a series of 10 to 50 parts.  This allows us on the one hand to reduce the costs of production, and on the other to have stock available for our customers.
The more complicated option is to simplify the manufacture and assembly of the elements involved a SCART exhaust.

I heard the V12 of a Matra on the Mans track.  Is is possible to have the same sound on my car?
It is only possible if you have an identical Matra V12.  Even then the choice of materials used, the shape and the volume can vary the sound of your Matra.  Generally speaking  we are looking to create a sound which corresponds to the car for which the SCART exhaust is created.  This means for example that the sound we offer for a 911.2 0L is completely different to that for a 928.S4.  Even the sound of the 964 and the 993 are different despite the fact that their 3.6L engines are supposedly identical.  It is essential therefore to forget any idea of reproducing the sound of one car for another.

How can an exhaust increase torque and power ?
This is possible by correcting the weaknesses of the original part and for the more recent models by working on the catalytic converters.  Even with the better known makes, the exhausts are not optimised.  Sometimes it can be intimidating, but we are honoured for example to have been able to make a significant improvement on a 360 Marnello.  Sometimes an exhaust is even intentionally “harnessed”!  This is the case with the Audi A6 S6+.  We simply allow the engine to express itself, allowing it to release all its torque and power.  In addition to which we give it a sound which will give you pleasure every time to start up and accelerate.

I want to gain power. Which part of the exhaust should I change ?
On an exhaust you could generally say that 80% of the potential increase in power comes from the catalytic converter(s), 10% from the silencers and 10% from the manifolds.  These proportions may vary, but only slightly, from one car to another.  For those models without catalytic converters, the potential gain in power comes evenly from all the way along the exhaust.
Should you wish to change the sound of your car as well as gain power, read the following FAQ.

I want a sport sound.  Which part of my exhaust should I change ?
Generally speaking on an exhaust, 80% of the sound comes from the silencer(s), 10% from the catalytic converter(s) and 10% from the remainder of the exhaust.
Should you wish to increase the power of your car, as well as change the sound, read the FAQ above.

Do you have the necessary fittings to mount your SCART exhausts ?
Yes.  With each of our exhausts we suggest a mounting kit.  These kits include the joints, the stainless steel screws and the special brake nuts for high temperatures.  Each kit also includes a tube of coppery grease for high temperatures.  You are not obliged to purchase a mounting kit with your exhaust.  However, it is essential for the guarantee of the exhaust.  You can consult the paragraph “lifetime guarantee” on the website’s homepage for more information.
